in front of the pump house
so this afternoon, we left the house at 2.50pm or drive off the carpark finally close to 3pm. we are running late as usual, later auntie irin will ask how come so late ? :0 so off we went, onto the SLE, CTE, PIE Changi, then exit at ECP City then towards AYE Jurong, exit at Marina South exit. follow the Marina Barrage sign and we have reached. for the record, when we enter SLE, we got 3 drops of rain then it kinda stop then when we reached CTE AMK, it was sunny again, then when we finally reach the Barrage, the skies were clear again. weird weather we are having!
there is a carpark next to the Barrage however as today is Sunday a weekend, the carpark is full, we had to made a U - turn and parked on another carpark further away! when we reached the entrance, we realised that the carpark that we intended to go has a very nice view, its overlooking ships and the water just next to it and of course a nice bridge.
The Marina Barrage is a dam in Singapore built across the Marina Channel between the reclaimed land of Marina East and Marina South. it was officially opened earlier this month on 1st November. Comprises nine steel gates, each 30m long, built across 350m wide Marina Channel. Separating seawater and freshwater, it also acts a tidal barrier to keep out high tides. the 5m steel gates can be lowered during heavy rain so that water from the reservoir can be released into the sea.
The S$226million project turns Marina Bay and Kallang Basin into a new downtown freshwater Marina Reservoir. it provides water supply, flood control and a new lifestyle attraction.
MM Lee Kuan Yew has this vision in 1977 and this is like 2 decades ago. Singapore went into water ration for the 1st time and its was then MM LKY decided that fresh water reservoir is needed. Man, this man really thinks far and thus deserves the title MM.
There are few things we could do at the Barrage.
1. pack a picnic
2. cross that connection
3. see the sea of change
4. admire the art
5. party at the pavilion
6. appetite for alfresco
7. wild on wet
8. support the sustainability
no guessing , which one we headed to, when we reached the entrance. kekekeke....
anyway, auntie irin and her gang are already there and waiting for us. we are gearing up to the water playground.
here are some pictures of the photos taken today.
